History

We made it into the history books from day one in Singapore. With your support, our first outlet at Liat Towers dished out the largest number of hamburgers served in a day. From then, there was no looking back (and the history books had to add quite a few pages since!). Let's start from the very beginning.

FROM NEIGHBOURHOOD STORE TO THE WHOLE WORLD OVER

From a neighbourhood restaurant established in Des Plaines, Illinois in 1955 to more than 30,000 restaurants in more than 100 countries worldwide. That's the brief story behind McDonald's becoming the world's largest quick service restaurant company.

In 1954, Ray Kroc acquired the franchising rights to a hamburger chain based in San Bernardino, California (from Dick and Mac McDonald). What followed became a classic modern success story. Ray's dedication to providing customers with consistent quality, service, cleanliness and value (QSCV) lives on as the company's cornerstone even today. Each aspect of McDonald's operations relies on QSC&V. "We take the hamburger business more seriously than anyone else," were Ray Kroc's very words.

McDonald's phenomenal growth came in leaps and bounds. By 1958, just three years after its inception, the company sold its 100 millionth hamburger. One year later, a record 67 restaurants were added (including the 100th, near Chicago's Midway airport).
